To increase economic efficiency and expand possibility of application of heavy lift helicopters of Mi-26(T) type in different conditions, a new Mi-26T2 helicopter with reduced crew members up to two persons (PIC and Co-Pilot-Navigator) and installed up-to-date airborne radio electronic equipment (BREO), was deigned by MIL MHP PLC (Moscow Helicopter Plant).

In 2011 a preproduction model of Mi-26T2 helicopter was made at “Rostvertol” PLC.

Flight Navigation system and Automatic Flight Control System allow to fly in different weather/climatic/physic geographical conditions at day and night on equipped, non-equipped routes of civil aviation, off-line flights and land-mark free terrain from equipped/non-equipped sites fitted out with radio communication equipment.

The Mi-26T2 is fitted out with updated aircraft radio electronic equipment (BREO) such as NPK90-2 integrated avionics equipment system.

The НПК90-2 integrated avionics equipment system (IAES) provides:

  • round-the-clock piloting in the VFR and adverse weather conditions;
  • en-route flight with the possibility of the on-line flight route change manually and by commands from the air traffic control centers (along with the CCU);
  • continuous automatic determination of the helicopter position and movement parameters;
  • automatic determination of polar coordinates relative to radio beacons and display thereof;
  • interception of the assigned point from the preset direction at the assigned time;
  • approach and prelanding maneuvering in compliance with the landing pattern established for the specific airfield including the go-around
  • return to the main and alternate airfields, as well as to the landing sites by the shortest distance
  • display of information on flight parameters, aggregates/helicopter systems’ operation, tactical situation.
  • the terrain mapping on the navigation page;
  • distance-to-go, covered distance, ground speed, indicated airspeed, actual ground speed and pressure equivalent altitude information on the navigation page;

The helicopter crew consists of 2 persons: PIC (LH pilot), co-pilot-navigator (RH pilot). When performing works with the external load sling, a load master is included as crew member. LH and RH pilots’ seats are located next to each other in the front part of cockpit.

EGPWS Early Ground Proximity Warning System is intended for flight crew provision with sufficient information which enables to identify in proper time potential danger of collision with ground (underlying surface or other obstacles) and undertake effective actions to overcome dangerous effect of collision.

To monitor cargo on the external load sling, area around the helicopter during handling operations, the Mi-26T2 is fitted out with BTU-26 TV-monitoring system which transmits image to MFIs.

The following equipment can be installed on the Mi-26T2 as an optional equipment:

  • SKY-899 warning system of air situation and warning of collision;
  • Projector TSL-1600;
  • D-136-2 turboshaft engine with new system of automatic control of FADEC type.
